Report cards for the second marking period were distributed to students on Monday. Please be sure to review grades with your child, help them reflect on their performance, and set goals for growth. Our teachers, counselors and administrators are here to help, so please contact us with any questions or concerns.
On Tuesday, several 8th grade students participated in the NAEP (National Association of Educational Progress) assessment. Our students worked diligently and behaved exceptionally well during the assessment.
The Valentine’s Dance was held after school on Thursday. Thank you to the students and advisors of the National Junior Honor Society for hosting the dance. A fun time was had by all!
This week, STEAM Club (the 'A' denotes an attention to art), assembled the base structures for an Aquaponics system in support of the EMS after school Enrichment Program. This week, both teams researched numerous aspects of what to plant in their ecosystems, and will work in tandem to support four semi-sustainable ecosystems (all students will monitor the various systems to maintain the health of each ecosystem). The students will decide the garden that is planted in their ecosystem based on various aspects of research. The culminating pièce de ré·sis·tance will be a meal that is created, planned and cooked using the produce grown in the their gardens!
On Friday, selected sixth grade students and their parents participated in “Breakfast with a Book.” Students had an opportunity to make up to four book selections of titles they are interested in reading. Books for those students will be purchased using Title I funds. Students then enjoyed a Chick-fil-a breakfast! We had special guests join us this morning as well: Dr. Jeffrey Lawson, Superintendent, Mr. James Fazzino, School Board Member, and Mr. Bill Coutz, County Councilman. Thank you for joining us!
Honors Breakfasts will be held at 8:30 am on the following dates: 6th grade - Wednesday, February 13; 7th grade - Thursday, February 14; 8th grade - Friday, February 15. Invitations were attached to report cards. We look forward to celebrating our students’ successes!
