    February 11, 2018

    What Happened This Week?

On Saturday, February 10, several students participated in the Solo & Ensemble Festival. All students earned a rating of Excellent or higher, with the following students earning Superior ratings, qualifying them to participate at the State Festival at Towson University in May: Jada Obegi, Nadiya Olusoga, Michael Pratt, Jada Robinson, Tony Rosado and Ellie Teigland. Congratulations!

Report Cards were issued on Monday afternoon. Please talk with your child about his or her grades and help them set goals for the third marking period. After speaking with your child, if you have questions or concerns about their grades, please reach out to specific teachers or call the Guidance Office to set up a parent conference.

Olympians and their teachers participated in a Staff vs. Students volleyball game for earning Gold Days (days without Office Disciplinary Referrals).

Middle School Movers basketball played Cherry Hill Middle School on Tuesday afternoon. Again, great sportsmanship was displayed by all. Our EMS cheerleaders performed wonderfully at half time and kept the audience entertained throughout the game. Next week, EMS movers will go to Perryville Middle School on Thursday, February 15. The bus will leave EMS at 2:00. Parents should be at EMS by 5:00 to pick up students after they return. This is a change to the posted schedule!

The Valentine’s Dance was held on Thursday afternoon. This dance was sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society, who hopes to raise funds for a college tour and trip to New York City this spring. A fun time was had by all!

    Did You Know?

PBIS Zone Day celebration has been moved to Friday, February 16. All activities are happening at Elkton Middle, so no permission slips or lunch arrangements are needed. Students should be sure to wear socks that day.

Elkton High School is hosting Eighth Grade Parent Night on Wednesday, February 28 at 6pm. This is an excellent time to hear about all that high school has to offer our students. You will learn about course offering and credit requirements, special programs, extracurricular activities, and much more. Eighth grade students should attend as well. Be on the lookout for more information about this important event for all eighth grade students and their families.

The Maryland State Department of Education is seeking the input of parents of students who receive special education surveys. The Maryland Special Education Parent Involvement Survey was recently mailed to homes. Please consider completing the paper survey or responding electronically. The purpose of the survey is to determine how well the school communicates and includes parents in the IEP process.  A flyer with additional information is attached here. Flyer.pdf

The Elkton Middle School Pantry is in need of hygiene items. If you have any of the following items available to donate, please consider dropping off items to the Main Office: soap, body wash, deodorant (mens’ and womens’), toothbrushes, toothpaste, socks (mens’ and womens’), shampoo/conditioner, lotion and feminine hygiene products.
