What Happened This Week?
On Monday, we had a very special visit from several members of the EHS Graduating class! We lined the halls dressed in our purple and gold to help celebrate these students!
We also had PARCC parties to recognize those students who were present for each day of testing and followed the test taking expectations. Students celebrated during their Fine Arts/PE time, and even had an opportunity to “dunk” some of their favorite staff members!
Elkton Middle School was recognized this week by the Maryland State Department of Education for earning the PBIS Gold award again this year! We work hard to recognize and celebrate our students for exhibiting respectful, responsible and safe behaviors, along with providing supports and interventions for students struggling to meet behavior expectations. Most of our school fundraisers go to supporting this initiative. Thank you for all you do to teach your children appropriate behaviors and for supporting this initiative!
The Cecil County Library Book-Mobile visited this week! All sixth grade students had an opportunity to pick out a free book and were given a drawstring bag to keep!
In Mr. Stewart’s science classes, students have been learning about the role of chickens in agriculture and the embryology of chickens. After incubating chicken eggs for 21 days, twenty-two chicks hatched on Monday and Tuesday! Students had an opportunity to watch the chicks hatch and observe them up close.
The Explorers had a wonderful Culture Day at Meadow Park on Wednesday. Students played games and made crafts from other cultures, listened to stories, and illustrated elements of culture with chalk as a review of what they learned in social studies. Also, Kona Ice came for a fun treat!
Eighth grade students went to Washington DC on Wednesday! They spent the day walking around the National Mall and the Smithsonian Museums. Students really enjoyed the Air and Space Museum and the Washington monument.
On Thursday, our sixth graders enjoyed their trip to Brandywine Park!
Also on Thursday, we held our first evern 8th Grade Picnic! We had a great turn-out, and staff from all over the school attended to celebrate one last time with our 8th grade students getting ready to leave for high school! We look forward to making this an annual event!
Our Band and Chorus performed at Hershey Park on Friday and received SUPERIOR ratings! We congratulate our performers and look forward to watching them next year!
