EARLY ADMISSION TO KINDERGARTEN
Cecil County Public Schools offers students who turn five between September 2 and October 15, the opportunity to be tested for Early Admission into Kindergarten. Students MUST turn five on or before October 15, to be eligible for early admission. Parents should complete the Early Admission to Kindergarten Request Form (see below) to be added to the evaluation list for Early Admission. The completion of this form is for information purposes only. Once the form is completed, the Early Childhood Department will review your information and a packet will be EMAILED to you on or about May 15. The packet can be emailed back to us or sent through the U.S. mail. The window to request consideration for early admission to kindergarten closes on June 15.
The intent of early admission into kindergarten is to make kindergarten available to younger students who demonstrate outstanding or exceptional abilities and are capable of working in a classroom with older children. The standards for early admission to kindergarten are very high to ensure that children are not frustrated with the advanced placement.
Students are evaluated at the end of June and parents will be notified of the decision in July. These test dates are the only dates available for evaluation and cannot be rescheduled.
PLEASE NOTE: A denial of early admission to kindergarten DOES NOT mean a child will automatically be accepted into the PreKindergarten program. The standard application procedure for PreKindergarten must be followed in order to be considered for admission into the PreKindergarten program.
