    Dragon’s Notes and News:

Caring and Sharing Campaign 2017 at Charlestown: Thank you for your generous contributions to our two outreach initiatives.  Our Turkey Trot food drive brought in five large boxes of non-perishable food items that will be greatly appreciated.  In addition, our families and staff members contributed enough items to fill 37 stockings for our Stockings for Soldiers campaign!  (See picture)  Some of our students helped to fill the stockings and were so excited to be a part of it.  Thank you!

Town of Charlestown Santa Tour and Tree Lighting: Come out for a fun evening of holiday cheer with the Town of Charlestown event.  Visit with Santa, have cookies and hot chocolate, make a craft, and listen to carols being sung by our very own fourth and fifth grade Charlestown ES students.  It will be a wonderful time!  The event schedule is attached here.  Town of Charlestown Santa Tour and Tree Lighting.pdf

School Safety and New Response to active threats in CCPS schools and administrative offices:  A letter came home this week that briefly described the new ALICE protocol for responses for school safety in the event of an active threat in our school building.  That letter is attached here for your reference as well as a handout with a brief statement with the meaning of the ALICE acronym (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate).  Prior to the winter break, teachers will be facilitating classroom discussions in order to teach and prepare our students in the ALICE protocols.  Among other resources that we will use is the book, “I’m Not Scared...I’m Prepared! Because I Know All About ALICE” by Julia Cook.  When we return from the winter break, we will begin to practice our responses with students.  More information will be sent home as we progress in our learning.  ALICE Letter and Acronym.pdf
