Unified Athletic Program
Cecil County Public Schools offers a unified sports program in addition to the general sports program. Unified sports teams are engaged in competitive matches in a variety of sports. Unified teams are made up of a combination of students with and without disabilities. A student with disabilities is defined as someone requiring special education services for their educational program. All students with special needs are eligible, regardless of physical, emotional, or cognitive ability. Any athlete, with and without disabilities, is eligible as long as they:
- maintain acceptable academic grades.
- are not a member of a general team in the same sport.
- do not play another sport in the same season.
This mixed ability approach allows athletes to help and support each other, to learn lifetime sports skills, work together as a team, and develop lifetime friendships.
