Frequently asked questions:
What is being done to assist students who have not demonstrated proficiency?
A: There is a multi-tiered system of intervention designed to support students as needs and/or challenges become more significant. Most importantly, teachers focus on high-quality, differentiated tier 1 instruction to mitigate the need for interventions. Yet, intervention support is still needed due to challenges with the acquisition of skills and concepts, or the need for more repetition with skills and concepts.
Intervention is provided in various ways, including small group instruction, additional time for math instruction/intervention, and tutoring. Targeted Math instruction (TMI) is focused on critical, big ideas and major concepts. The classroom teacher, co-teacher (e.g., special educator), provide(s) intervention support. Intervention resources include MD College and Career-Ready Standards aligned curriculum materials, teacher-selected resources, and research-informed published interventions such as Do The Math.
