New Teacher Induction Program
Our focus is to improve student learning by increasing the effectiveness of new teachers.
We offer a comprehensive approach to our program with:
- early orientation sessions
- ongoing professional learning
- well prepared instructional coaches
- one-on-one mentoring
- master teacher visitations
- observational and data collection feedback

New Teacher Statistics 2019-2020:
Cecil County Public Schools has welcomed 74 new teachers to our school system to start the 2019-2020 school year to teach or provide services in the following areas:

An additional 73.5 vacancies were filled via transfers and 3 individuals returned from approved Leave of Absence in 2018-2019.
Our new teachers come to us from 8 different states and 39 different colleges and universities. Maryland provided 48 of our new teachers; Pennsylvania provided 8 and Delaware 13. Other states represented include Georgia, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Virginia.
Towson University 13, Wilmington University 9, and the University of Delaware 8 provide CCPS with the highest number of alumni this year.
For 27 of our teachers new to the Cecil County Public Schools, this will be the start of their teaching career. For others, 21 have teaching experience ranging from 1 to 5 years, 6 have teaching experience ranging from 6 to 10 years, and 20 have more than 10 years of teaching experience.
A review of professional preparation shows that 41 of our new teachers hold bachelor degrees, 29 have earned master degrees, and 2 have earned doctoral degrees. The average GPA of the group is 3.65. 17 (22%) of our new teachers earned a GPA of 3.95 or higher. 11 individuals have a perfect 4.0 GPA.
21 of our new teachers are Cecil County graduates and 13 completed their student teaching within one of our schools. Joining us this year are 3 minority teachers to help enrich a diverse workforce.
